Formation of gold/silver composite nanoparticles by pulsed laser ablation of gold–silver layered films in liquid

Nanoparticles of high purity can be produced from a variety materials by pulsed laser ablation solids in liquid. Composite nanoparticles are great importance various applications such as catalysis or biomedicine and the process their formation is still subject intense research. In this work, gold/silver composite were synthesized aqueous media ns gold–silver multilayer targets with different absolute layer thicknesses thickness ratios. The generated showed log-normal distribution sizes, average diameter 20–40 nm range standard deviation 9–30 nm. By comparing UV–VIS absorbance spectra nanoparticle colloids two theoretical calculations (based on Mie BEM model), it was found that there direct correlation between Au Ag content composition films substrate. Assuming thermal ablation, our model maximum top up to which both layers ablated simultaneously alloy produced.
